2.16.21- Cal South Message
Dear Cal South Members:
Late Friday evening, February 12, 2021, Mr. Bob Turner informed the Cal South Board of Directors that he had resigned as Cal South President effective immediately due to health reasons.
On Monday, February 15, 2021, the Cal South Board of Directors moved swiftly to appoint, Roy Carlson to the position of Cal South President for the remainder of the term of office. The Executive Vice President position vacated by Roy will be filled by our current District One Commissioner, Robert Pennoyer, who is running unopposed for the EVP role in next month’s elections.
Roy brings a wealth of Board level experience to the position and is one of the most qualified and senior of our Board. He assumes the Presidency at one of the most challenging times in Cal South history with the departure of the SCDSL and Bob Turner from the ranks of Cal South, an election looming just one month away, and amidst an ongoing search for a new CEO. Roy’s leadership will be tested and has never been more needed than it is now.
Roy had this to say, “In light of Mr. Turner’s resignation, last night the Cal South Board of Directors appointed me the new Cal South President to serve the remainder of the term of office. I am very honored by the appointment and excited to continue to serve Cal South during these tumultuous times. My involvement with Cal South started in 1982 when I first coached a U8 girls team in San Diego. I later became a club director and club President in San Diego. I have been on the Cal South Board since 2010. I hope to provide some stability to help us all get back out on the field as soon as we can.”
Roy is also a member of the US Soccer Federation Appeals Committee, the US Youth Risk Management Committee and is the Secretary of USASA Region IV as well as a member of the USASA Rules Committee.
